Over a hundred year old Garden & Arboretum in North Carolina University! In 1903, Dr. Williams Coker developed a five-acre boggy pasture into an outdoor University classroom for the study of trees, shrubs and vines in the University of North Carolina. Now, for more than 100 years, the Coker Arboretum has become one of the main attractions of the University.
Through the years, many plants and collections have been added in the arboretum such as East Asian trees and shrubs, flowering trees, perennial displays and Native North Carolina plants which add to the beauty and educational value of the arboretum.
